Northern Hawk Owl, Top of the World Hwy, Yukon

The Northern Hawk Owl is active only during the day and hunts in remote areas free from the effects of human disturbance. The Audubon Guide to North American Birds states: “In the northern forest, a lucky observer may spot this long-tailed owl perched upright at the top of a spruce.” Well, we were the lucky ones and saw this beautiful bird alongside the Top of the World Highway west of Dawson City.
